Who invented the Metaverse?
Back in 1992, metaverse was just an idea. A sci-fi writer Neal Stephenson came up with a name he used to describe a space between the physical and virtual. In his 30-year-old novel, Snow Crash, he refers to the virtual platform as a place where humans escape the real-life dictatorial regime. He describes humans as programmable avatars that communicate in a three-dimensional space. Users live on a black planet in urban surroundings, with only one monorail available for travelling. Seems like just a fraction of today’s Decentraland and The SandBox, where users enjoy a more visually appealing virtual reality. During the past couple of decades, there has been a radical shift in the perception of the Metaverse. We started the journey by escaping to a dystopian realm and ended up with a more refined idea of pleasure.

According to Wikipedia, this refers to an interactive experience of the real-world environment. The users don virtual reality headsets that enable them to perceive visuals from the digital space in the real world. Wouldn’t it be fun to go out for a three-dimensional cup of coffee with a dear friend who lives on the other side of the world? It would be easy like getting on a Zoom call, only, much, much better. Thousands of crypto users have already embraced this idea. As a reminder, a recent metaverse real estate hype made the coins and stock prices skyrocket. Users are still rushing to pay millions of dollars to secure a plot of land in cyberspace.
